How to choose a pressure-relief cushion

Size, height, posture and risk before material.

Reviewed with care·

The best cushion fails if it is narrower than the chair or raises the user until feet lose support. Size, height, posture and risk before material.

Options for this need

Compare what each aid offers and who it may suit.

PEPE Mobility 42 × 42 × 8 cm pressure cushion

PEPE Mobility 42 × 42 × 8 cm pressure cushion

A good fit when: its dimensions fit the chair and it forms part of a posture and pressure-relief plan.

I would not choose it if: there is an unassessed wound or the added height makes footrests and armrests unsafe.

Assistive equipment does not replace clinical or occupational-therapy assessment when there is pain, a fall, a wound, sudden deterioration or an unsafe transfer.

How to make the decision

A foam cushion with a large review sample for seated use, provided size and risk level are appropriate.

  • A chair with a compatible 42 cm seat
  • A need to redistribute seated pressure
  • Use with regular skin and posture checks

The boundary not to cross

Comfort alone does not prove the cushion is sufficient for high risk. Added height must not compromise footrests, armrests or lateral stability.

Seek clinical or occupational-therapy advice for new severe pain, an open wound, a recent fall, sudden weakness, breathing difficulty or inability to control head and trunk. An online guide cannot assess those risks remotely.
